So, we’re closing in on those first sales. Keep going. You’re almost ready to begin seeing some results from your efforts.

I’ve heard from quite a few members who have told me they are “finally getting somewhere” due to the step-by-step, drip-feed format we’ve been using. Trust me when I say, it’s only going to get better.

But, it does illustrate a good point: the hardest part of success in internet marketing for most people is getting out of the gate.

It’s been my experience that those who get things setup end up making money. The staggering failure rate that is reported as the “norm” primarily is a result of the lack of getting the foundational things in place.

If you quit and turn back, you’ll be stuck in the starting position once again. And off to find another “option”. One more stat in the staggering failure rate.

If – you – stick – with – this – and – follow – instructions – you – won’t – fail!

Introduction

The ultimate way to get buyers is to strategically use presell content to convert browsers into buyers. It’s time to start blogging!

Your first step is to populate your blog by posting at least five or six messages initially. That way, anyone who visits your blog in the near future will see a busy blog, which makes them more likely to return. If they visit and see just an article or two, they may assume the blog is abandoned (which means they won’t bookmark it, subscribe to the RSS feed, or visit it again).

After you’ve populated your blog, you then need to commit to a regular posting schedule. Obviously, the more you post the better. So if you can post a short article each day, that’s great. But if not, then commit to posting at least three or four times per week.

SIDEBAR: We’ll talk more about “regular” weekly blogging later. In fact, I’ll give you so many ideas for getting ready-made content and creating fresh content that you’ll have plenty of options for years to come. For now, we’re just gonna focus on populating your blog with initial content so it has some “meat” to it when people visit.

Home Business Technology Course

Hi there. Here’s something cool for you if you want to start your new online business like right now and technology gives you cramps.

Johnny B. Truant (online personality-boy persona of a really competent guy…shh!) has a new course that takes you step-by-step with videos through every stinking detail of getting your online business up and running–in seven days!

He assumes you can read email and run a browser, but need help beyond that–which is why you can’t get your business going online. If you’re more experienced than that, skim the lessons until you land knee-deep in the mire you can’t deal with.

I feel comfortable recommending his course because he was clever enough to give out a freebie awhile back on how to set up your WordPress blog in an hour for stupidly cheap. I gobbled up that book and found a step-by-step process laced with wacky humor.

As it happens, I’m familiar with the process and his method is spot on.  Thumbs up!

The giggles he added for fun makes the installation more palatable than the fingernail-chewing worries and hair-pulling I went through the first few times on my own.

So what’s wrong with the course?

If you’re offended by offensive language, be warned. It’s in the course, on the sales page, pretty much everywhere.

It starts with the name of the course: Make the Internet Your Bitch. Only he would think up that name for a course on making technology work the way you want it.

But the dude knows his technology and then some. I’m thinking he’s helped people who mishandled their software settings and techy stuff to the point that it looks like alien roadkill, and he can find the push button that makes it all stand up, salute and get busy making your online business hum.

Like I said, the name of the course is Make The Internet Your Bitch. As in, shape up you tricky technology you. Work right, right now, and keep on working right.

Ooh. Did you feel that little thrill run down your spine? I did. I remember the days when I couldn’t even FTP 90% of the time. There I was with a brand new site and it seemed like I needed voodoo to make the settings work so I could upload a page I slaved over.

My affiliate marketing lifeline.

I can’t tell you how much money I’ve spent with the aim of creating an online income. Far too much of it went on credit cards, but I called it an investment.

Yes, I got an education on all kinds of things, like puzzle pieces that haven’t fit together. The sad part is I’m still broke, even with selling stuff on eBay.

I understand affiliate marketing’s considered easy. I’ve taken a stab at that so many times, because it’s free you know. If relative newbies can do it and I’m no longer that, what do I do wrong?

Is the Affiliatenaire course perfect? Not quite. His instructions include details on working with a different web host than the one I use, and a different autoresponder. While they’re excellent choices and a beginner could follow along without trouble, I push a different set of buttons for the same results. I’m okay with that.

My biggest wish is that he could provide a bonk on my hard head when I let perfectionism slow me down. He does tell me what’s good enough, what will do the trick, so I suspect he knows about perfectionism.

This case study follows an affiliate marketer wannabe (me) through the steps of Jimmy D. Brown’s 52-week course called Affiliatenaire, Make Money Selling Other People’s Stuff in 3 Hours or Less. One year from the starting date of April 24, 2009, Karen Wehrle wants to be making a full-time income from affiliate marketing.

Describe The Starting Point

My affiliate marketing success so far is “imagining” I’m an affiliate. I thought I was one until I started reading the course. To date I’ve had two sales and they happened within the last six months after years of no sales. They feel like flukes because they are flukes. I haven’t received that money yet.

Where Are We Now?

This post is part of Lesson #4. The three prior lessons laid building blocks that I’ve generally skipped before. It feels really good to know I haven’t missed a step this time. It’s May 27 as I write this first ever post on my new WordPress blog on my own domain on the broad topic “home business.” I’ve prepared other things according to plan, things I’m very glad I didn’t have to do on my own.

Am I On Course?

Lesson #6 will hit my inbox later this week, so I want to finish Lesson #4 today and Lesson #5 tomorrow. I stayed on track until Lesson #3 and the reason I’m a bit behind is my fault entirely.

I let myself get distracted and added another To-Do item to my list, despite my promise to myself that I’d stay true to this one thing and see it through to the end. This blog will help me track my progress. Putting myself out there for the whole world to see might help keep me focused.

How Do I Like Affiliatenaire So Far?

I like it a lot. Even with the weekly lessons laid out for me, and video help, I’ve had moments of confusion where I tried to do three things at once. That’s an old trick of mine that I continually trip over. Twice in Lesson #3, I punched both fists into the air in jubilation when I achieved the goals of the week.

Each week Jimmy tells me what’s coming up in the next Affiliatenaire lesson. Some I look forward to because they’re familiar, others I take on trust that he’ll get me through them. And he has. As a person who tends to be a loner, I’m discovering sweet relief in having an experienced partner guiding me through the steps.
